Last Sunday, while driving, I tuned in to a Chinese podcast about the legendary scholar and statesman 范仲淹 (Fan Zhongyan).
I didn’t expect it, but one simple idea from that episode stayed with me the whole week.
The host said, “In today’s world, we care too much about the effect (果), and too little about the cause (因).”
That hit me!
He shared a story about a farmer’s mindset. A farmer never worries about how fast his crops grow; that’s the effect (果), something beyond his control. Instead, he focuses on the cause (因): watering every day, adding fertilizer, and removing weeds. He never cries over the growth of his crops, because he knows his job is to care for the process (cause 因), not control the outcome (果).
And that got me thinking…
In our modern life, whether we’re building a business, starting a project, or posting on social media, we often obsess over results. Can we make it? How many likes do we get? What’s the ROI?
But the real transformation happens in the cause, the small, consistent, and often boring things we do every day.
Even writing this post, my first instinct was to think about how it will perform. But what truly matters is regular posting every week, reflecting on my experiences, being emotionally aware, and translating that awareness into words. That is my cause (因). At ReaPra, we’re encouraged to cultivate emotional awareness in everything we do, because our inner state shapes the outcomes we create.
And speaking of process, if you have long-overdue sensitive documents lying around, part of your “cause” might be keeping your data protection in order. You can always count on RePura Works for secure on-site shredding services.
